What is Office?  What is Windows?

What is Windows?

  • An Operating System
  • The brains of the computer.  It tells the computer how to run.
  • Windows comes with Microsoft Wordpad and Notepad.  This is not the same as Microsoft Word.  These 2 programs are limited as to what they can do

  2. Office 2000
  3. Office 2002 or Office XP (same thing but different names)
  4. Office 2003
  5. Office 2007 - Major change and differences


What is Office?

  • Office is a program in the Operating System.
  • Office is made up of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Word is for typing letters, pictures, borders, flyers, and greeting cards.
  • Excel is for bookkeeping. 
  • Power Point is for creating slide shows.
  • Office is a tool you can purchase for the Operating System.

 

Microsoft Works - This program is similar to a small version of Office.  It is limited in much of what it can do.  It is not Microsoft Word.

 

A free version of a program similar to Office is called OpenOffice.
