How to save and open a file
During this lesson you will learn how to save and open a file. These directions are generic in nature because all programs will be slightly different.
Click Start, Programs, and then click the program you are going to use. (For this lesson I am going to use Microsoft Word)
Click File.
Click Save. At this point there are 3 things I want you to notice.
Notice the box that says "Save In." You need to notice where the file is being saved. I suggest you make sure it says "My Documents."
Here is what to do if it doesn't say "My Documents." Click on the down arrow in the "Save In:" box. Look for "my documents" and then click on it.
The second thing is "File Name." Check the file name and change it if you want to. Click on the white box next to file name. Now you can change the name to whatever you want.
The last thing is the save button. Click Save and you are done.
Open in a file.
Click File.
Click Open.
Notice the box that says "Look In." You need to notice where the file is being opened from. I suggest you make sure it says "My Documents."
Here is what to do if it doesn't say "My Documents." Click on the down arrow in the "Look in:" box. Look for "my documents" and then click on it.
